Knit 'n Stitch by Heidi

As most of you probably know, I started an Etsy Shop called Knit 'n Stitch by Heidi. I've also got a Facebook Page for it. I have over 1000 followers on FB (which is pretty cool, I think) and because of that I am hosting a giveaway on my page. FB has all of these crazy rules about giveaways, so I'm going to have to announce the winners on my blog. I still want to use this blog to keep track of things I have made, but I think I'm going to start posting pictures of items I have in my shop. It won't be a place for me to have sales, and I'll still post things I make for fun. I just wanted to give you a heads up! If this will annoy you, then feel free to stop following this page. Christmas Presents for 2010

This year I didn't knit as much as I have in years past. I tried to get most everything done before Zach was born in November. It didn't completely happen, so there were a couple of projects that I wanted to do, but had to abandon. I am still working on some knee high slippers for my sister. I gave her one at Christmas and hope to get her the other one before the month is over. Or maybe I should just save slipper #2 for next year...hmmmm.........

Well, I forgot to take pictures of the few projects I did finish before I wrapped them, so I got pictures of them being modeled!

These are actually the first pair of slippers I have made. They are such a simple project that I can't believe I never made them before!

Matching hats for my nephews!

I love this purse!!! I just found a really simple pattern and added a few embellishments. I also made a hat out of the same colors! Doesn't my niece look cute!?!

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

I'm really quite proud of this project. Not because it was hard but because I just am. It all started a couple of months ago. I went garage selling with my family and we stopped at this set of apartments. There were a lot of different people selling things, but a couple of older ladies caught my eye. They had boxes of yarn!!! I asked how much they wanted for all of it. Two dollars!!!!! Jackpot!!!!! I think I ended up with about 5 grocery sacks stuffed full of yarn. Among the many colors was quite a bit of this maroon. I decided there was enough to make an afghan and that I would never use all of it unless that's what I made. So I found a pattern and about 2 to 3 weeks later I had an afghan. When I started this project I knew that it would have to go to someone who would appreciate all the work; it had to go to my mom. She made so many outfits for us kids growing up. This is my little thanks for all the hard work she put into all those wonderful handmade items! Happy (Early) Birthday Mom!!! I hope you enjoy snuggling up in this blanket with some chocolate and good book!

A Stocking for Zachary

This is a Christmas stocking for Zachary. It was hard to find just the right pattern, so I actually ended up combining a couple different patterns and this is what I came up with. It turned out pretty well and it only took me two days! Another project to check off the list. With only 6 weeks until Zach makes his debut I have got some major knitting to do if I want to be all done with Christmas presents!

Trains, Trucks, or Tractors?!?

When I was in high school my mom bought me a book of knitting patterns so I could make a sweater that was in it. I remember at the time I felt bad because it is a hard back book and was more expensive than any of the other knitting books I had ever purchased before. Little did I know that it would be a great investment. I have used that pattern book on several occasions throughout that past few years. When I got the book there was an afghan that I just loved!!! It was covered in trains. I always said that if I had a boy that one day I would make the afghan (it looked like to much work to make otherwise). When Michael and I found out that we were having a boy I knew I had to get to work. As I got looking at the pattern I realized that it was called "Trucks" not trains. As I worked on it I asked people what they looked like. I got one of three responses: a train, a truck, or a tractor. I decided that they are trains, but I guess it is in the eye of the beholder! I'm just excited to have completed this project (and it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself).



***Just a note to all you crocheters out there: Don't look to close at the boarder. After attempting the entire boarder twice it is as good as it's going to get. One day I might be a crocheter, but for now I'll stick to knitting!

Christmas Time Once Again?!?

I have been knitting like crazy these past weeks, but, unfortunatly, I cannot share with you any of the items I have made. They are mainly Christmas presents and would not be a surprise if I published them online. I am, however, making an afaghan for our baby, Zachary, who will be arriving in November. That I can share when it is finished. Other than that, don't expect a lot between now and Christmas!

Scarf

So I actually have been working on projects since Christmas, just slowly. I just finished this scarf. I don't have anything in mind for it. It's going to go in my small box of projects that I may one day sell or give as a gift. Anyway, I think it turned out kind of cute.

Baby Booties

I make baby booties everytime I'm invited to a baby shower. They are nice because I can use a small amount of yarn and whip them out in a couple hours. I made these for a friend in my ward who had a shower this weekend. I've never made white ones before, but I think these turned out pretty cute!

Christmas 2009

Now that Christmas is over I can show of my many hours of work. I really have a lot of fun trying to find/make up patterns for projects that I think people will like. Sometimes I worry that it isn't as fun for the reciever to get knitted presents (instead of something from a store) as it is for me to make and give them. I have to remind myself that it's the thought that counts...right?!?

The green hat I made for my brother-in-law Mike. He loved it! I was very glad. The black hat I actually made for Michael (my husband) last year. I've made quite a few hats out of this pattern, and they seem to be a hit. I use two strands of yarn so they are super warm.

This hat and scarf set is one of my favorites! The pattern was so simple, but very pretty. Mike's sister Martha wore the scarf almost every day while we were in Illinois. It matches her coat perfectly!

I LOVE these vests. I made them for my nephews Trent and Spencer. Spencer tried his on right after he opened it (with help from his mom) and looked so darn cute!

I don't know why this picture is up-side-down, but here it is anyway. This set was for Macy who turned 8 the day after Christmas. They are so simple, but I know I would have loved the fuzzy yarn when I was her age. She looked adorable in them!

These hats were so fun! I found the penguin online for Spencer and thought it was such a cute idea. I wanted another animal for Trent, but couldn't find one that I liked. So, I decided to go out on a limb and make up my own pattern. It was a lot of fun! Next time I do that pattern I will probably make a few changes, but for the most part I love how it turned out!

I think Christmas presents were a success! Phew!!! Now it's time to start on this year's presents....any suggestion?!?

Last Year's Christmas Presents

I like knit as many Christmas presents as a can. It means that the presents we give are a little different than what most people get (which is fun) and it saves us some money. Last year I made these for my sister-in-law's family. The purses and matching hats were for her older daughters and the sweater was for her baby, who is about a month and a half older than Samantha.

This year I once again knitted quite a few Christmas presents, but I don't want to post them until the recievers have opened them.

Hats!!!

This hat is for a friend's daughter. It's pretty cute, I think. I was originally going to made a purse, but it was just so cute I thought a hat would be more fun with this yarn. I think the pom-pom is my favorite part!

I finally got around to making a hat for Samantha. I have made a lot of hats, but this is the first one I've made for my girl. It's about time! I decided I don't want her to freeze in Illinois this Christmas. It was a fun hat to make. I just made up the pattern as a went. I'm starting to figure out that I don't really need a pattern all the time, especially for simple projects like these two.

Samantha's Stocking

I finished Samantha's stocking and have it now hanging on the wall. It turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself. I have decided that I'm going to knit all of my kids stockings. I love the stocking I used growing up and hope my kids will have fond memories of their stockings as well.

Flower Hat

I found the pattern for this hat online. The hat is knitted and the flowe is crocheted. With a little help from a crocheting instruction guide I was able to figure out how to do the flower. It's only the second thing that I have attempted to crochet. Not too shabby if I do say so myself!

I thought the hat would be the perfect Christmas present for my sister Kathryn. Unfortunatly there was not gauge for the pattern and I didn't use the right type of yarn. So instead of getting an adult sized hat, I ended up with an infant sized hat. Fortunantly I will be getting a new niece sometime this comming week. I hope she likes the hat!!!

Purse

Michael calls this my Harry Potter purse, but I didn't mean for it to be. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but it looks pretty cool. The draw strings are actually twisted, not knitted, which is a fun addition.

Stuff for my Girl!!!

I finished the pink dress a couple of months ago. It looks really cute on her; I'm going to try to get some professional pictures taken of her in it. The baby afaghan I actually made when I was in high school and saved it to use for Samantha's baby blessing.
